UFC 251: UFC Woman’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko can now be counted among the fighter ready to fly down to Dana White’s fight island.

Valentina Shevchenko might actually want her very next fight to be on the island. She said, “From the very, very first second when I heard about the island, it was already my favorite idea. Yes, I definitely would love to fight there.”Shevchenko told MMA Junkie Radio.

Valentina currently lives and trains out of Las Vegas. But her social media makes it quite clear that she loves to travel and experience different places all around the world. She is specifically drawn to the tropical destination. And for sure the island is an attractive option.

The Kyrgyzstani-born fighter is fresh out of a torn MCL surgery and is recovering well. She’s already looking to book her next fight. Shevchenko (19-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) wants her fight against Joanne Calderwood. They were originally supposed to fight at UFC 251 on the 6th of June in Australia. But that has been pushed back due to the pandemic situation.

Taking about her fight with Joanne Calderwood she said, “Now I hope it’s going to happen sometime at the end of August, and why not – why not on the island? It can be like a double great thing, and definitely, I love the idea of the island. I love it because on the island is going to be everything that a fighter needs, right? Because it’s going to be built especially for the UFC fights, for the UFC fighters. That’s why we will have all facilities that we need, and it’s going to be very easy to train, very easy to do everything.”

Valentina Shevchenko on Dana White’s Fight Island

Dana White has kept his lips sealed when it comes to details about this mysterious island. But he’s making all the efforts he can towards getting that started at the earliest. Till the island is ready, Dana White is side by side already working on an event for the 9th of May. Dana White is determined to get the show back on the road.

As of now, Valentina Shevchenko will continue to train at her Las Vegas home keeping in mind the stay home orders in place. Speaking of a possible increase in the size of her camp if the island fight happens she said, “I would love to have my training camp over there before the fight, to fight there, and actually to stay and recover after the fight on the island because I imagine it’s going to be super beautiful and a super nice place.”

Valentina Schevchenko wants to start competing as soon as possible. All we need now is for the pandemic to cool off so UFC can resume their normal schedule.
